ABOUT HARK!

Hark! is a performance piece being developed The Enlightenments, an exhibition at the Dean Gallery curated by Juliana Engberg for the 2009 Edinburgh International Festival. The performance will run daily from August 6  to September 6 2009.

The performance involves the musical delivery of the daily news as an introduction into the exhibition. Multi-talented musicians croon the world’s disasters, belt out the horoscopes in an operatic epic, rap the local updates, rock the stock exchange, chant the puzzles and harmonise a sports jazz number. Each day the world events will be summarised and melodified, a distinct tune attributed to each segment and personally heralded to gallery-goers, café patrons and passers-by.

Each day of the exhibition, new songs will be written and performed, with a specific focus on the projections made in the economic and horoscopic fields, alongside local news and world features. Up until the exhibition begins in Edinburgh, the group will rehearse writing and performing songs in Melbourne. Current posts are all of rehearsals.
